Terry's Groceries

Earlier this year I went to visit my cousin Eliot in New Rochelle. I asked him if the Terry-Toons studio is still around, We drove over there, and took pictures of the original building, which is now a grocery store.

Yeah, Imagine how it was like in the 30s and 40s!
I wonder what kind of practical jokes the Terry-Toons animators would play play on each other...

Glad to share & Glad you like

I wonder which was built first... the tall part or the long part? They don't look like they existed as one building at first. I wonder if the studio was in the whole thing, or just whichever part was built before the other. Very cool, thanks for sharing! =)

It's sad to see that such an amazing studio is a grocery store now...thanks for showing!

I like your art and animation(especially the Baby with the Bowlingball), you have a very cartoony style and I like your caricatures!=)

Ralph Bakshi, Robert Taylor or Cosmo Anzilotti are three Terry alums who should be able to tell you more about this structure. BTW, the Fleischer Brothers studio is still standing as a school in Miami. Jerry Beck may still have those photos archived on his Cartoon Research site.

Only fitting, as Paul Terry once said,"If Disney is the 'Tiffany's' of the animation business, then I am the 'Woolworth's'." A grocery store is often cited for having just one purpose: TO MAKE MONEY. And Terry certainly did that during the 30 or so years he was in charge of his studio.
